3° Forum – Natural Therapy in Psychiatry and Neurology (ATNPN)
During the conference, Prof. Stefano Pallanti will cover three roles:
Coordinator of the session “the Natural Therapies in Autism”, Speaker on ‘Microbiota and integrated interventions in autism’ and a Lecturer of the stand-alone lecture on ‘Saffron and depressive disorders: update 2025’.
Conference Details:
📅 Date: 23 – 24 October 2025
📍 Place: Auditorium San Paolo Via Giotto, 36 - 20145 Milano
Natural therapies, yes, but only if scientifically proven. Prof. Stefano Pallanti, founding member of the Academy of Natural Therapy in Psychiatry and Neurology, promotes natural therapies in psychiatry.
The Academy of Natural Therapy in Psychiatry and Neurology (ATNPN) was founded with the aim of promoting responsible and evidence-based development of natural therapies in the neuropsychiatric field.
Natural treatments are becoming increasingly popular. Nutraceuticals, probiotics, and other alternatives to drugs are widely accepted, but only some of these discoveries have been scientifically proven.
Knowledge of the mechanisms of action of these preparations allows for their precise, effective, and, above all, safe use.
It is possible to combine the effects of natural treatments with those of neuromodulation therapies. Magnetic energy and transcranial modulation with infrared light, combined with the antioxidant effects of phytotherapy and the anti-inflammatory effects of targeted probiotics, represent, in some cases, a natural alternative to traditional psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments.
At the Institute of Neuroscience, nutraceuticals and phytotherapeutics are also used in neuromodulation therapies to obtain the most favorable stimulation parameters for each individual case, such as the intensity threshold of the specific protocol and the duration of each session, according to the characteristics of each individual, in order to achieve the most suitable therapeutic effect for each person with the lowest possible intensity.

The use of nutraceuticals and phytoceuticals represents, to all intents and purposes,
a fourth pillar of therapeutic interventions in the field of mental health and neuropsychiatric disorders, alongside neuropsychopharmacology, psychotherapy, and neuromodulation.
With some important evidence, of course. The possibility of using these aids without a prescription, as well as the opportunity to use them in combination with other
first-line treatments in prodromal, residual, or poor therapeutic response situations, are just some of the many areas in which integration with nutraceuticals and phytochemicals can find proper application. Nevertheless, knowledge of what the literature reports in terms of RCTs, meta-analyses, and recommendations from the Guidelines must form the basis for guiding the optimal use of nutraceuticals and phytochemicals in the clinical direction of
evidence-based medicine, capable of offering the greatest effectiveness in terms of
appropriateness of use and duration of a specific supplementation,
optimal dosages, and dosage regimens. It will be precisely on the aspects of clinical application and integration, together with a critical review of the most recent scientific evidence, that the third edition of the ATNPN Forum will focus, scheduled in a hybrid version, in person in Milan and via remote connection, on October 23 and 24, 2025.
