He held teaching positions in a variety of disciplines at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Florence continuously from 1972 until his retirement in 2005.
His didactic activity was also carried out with teaching assignments in different Schools of Specialization including those in Psychiatry, Neurology, Geriatrics, Audiology, Anesthesia and Resuscitation and Neurophysiopathology holding in the latter also the position of Director in the most recent years.
Starting in 1997 and until his retirement, he was Director of the 2nd Neurological Clinic of the University of Florence and later also of the School of Specialization in Neurophysiopathology.
Dr. Arnetoli's scientific activity was mainly focused on research in Neurochemistry (demyelinating diseases, alterations of the Blood-Cerebrospinal Fluid Barrier), Neuropharmacology (Parkinson's disease, epilepsy) and Neurophysiopathology (cerebrovascular diseases, epilepsy, dementia) and is well documented in more than 200 papers and abstracts published in Italian and international journals.
He also collaborated on the “Trattato di Semiotica Medica” by B. Tarquini (Ed. Esculapio, Bologna 1983) as author of the chapter on the Semeiotics of the Nervous System (pp. 1609 - 1858) and to the “Trattato di Neurologia” by O. Maleci and L. Amaducci (Ed. Esculapio, Bologna - 1988-) editing the chapters on "Coma" and "Transient Losses of Consciousness" and to the 18th edition of “Il nuovo Rasario: Semeiotica e metodologia medica“ (Idelson, Naples 1996) in which he was responsible for the chapter on the Nervous System.
