The Biennial Course on Anxiety Disorders, developed by the ECNP Anxiety Disorders Research Network and the ECNP Educational Committee, aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the phenomenological, etiological and therapeutic aspects of Anxiety Disorders.
The course was addressed to:
Clinicians working in mental health services (principally, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and mental health pharmacists) interested to extend their expertise in anxiety disorders;
Laboratory-based researchers with an interest in pre-clinical and translational investigations of the mechanisms underlying anxiety and the response to treatments for anxiety disorders.
By attending several seminar cycles and reading materials provided by the speakers, course participants had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and gain specialized skills about Anxiety Disorders and their treatment.
Course Content
The biennial course was structured in four modules that covered a broad range of key topics on Anxiety Disorders, including their classification and phenomenology, preclinical and neurocognitive models, brain imaging, prevention and current and emerging psychiatric and psychological treatments (including Neuromodulation Therapies), as well as self- and mutual-help strategies.
Each module included a cycle of live e-learning lectures, featuring leading experts in the field of anxiety and related disorders.
The lecture on Neuromodulation Therapies held by Dr. Stefano Pallanti on June 13, 2024 represented a major highlight of the course in which the Professor ― a world pioneer in the field of neuromodulation ― shared the latest findings and applications of these treatment techniques in the management of Anxiety Disorders.
Registration Modalities
The course offered two ways of participation:
Full participant ┃ A limited group of participants was selected by an evaluation committee based on their career potential. This group received access to all the resources of the biennal course ― which included direct readings, participation in 20 live e-learning lectures and two in-person colloquia ― and the release of a certificate of specialization in Anxiety Disorders.
Auditor ┃Those interested only in the e-learning seminars were able to attend the 20 lectures, but had not the opportunity to participate in the in-person colloquia and receive the specialization certificate.
For both modes no registration fee was required, but all participants were invited to provide feedback to help develop similar courses in the future.
