Anxiety, Depression, and other Affective Disorders are the most prevalent mental disorders globally, yet the mechanisms underlying them remain partly unclear. Affective neuroscience aims to elucidate the brain mechanisms underlying affective disorders, promoting the improvement of existing therapies and the development of new innovative and effective treatments.
From July 1st to 5th, 2024, the University of Florence hosted the 2024 edition of the Summer School on Affective Neuroscience, a unique opportunity for clinicians and young researchers to acquire specialized training in affective neuroscience. The course program included two courses:
Fear, Anxiety, Obsessions, and Trauma;
Mood, Aggression, and Attraction.
The two courses aimed to provide an extensive analysis of the latest advances in affective neuroscience, using a didactic approach combining inspiring lectures with hands-on workshops.
The Summer Course was accredited for 28 CME credits. At the end of each course, participants received a certificate of attendance and those who completed both courses received a European Certificate in Affective Neuroscience issued by the University of Maastricht.
Dr. Pallanti's Lecture ― Precision TMS for the OCD Spectrum
📆 Date: July 3rd, 2024
🕘 Time: 10:15 AM (CET)
📖 Topic: TMS for the OCD Spectrum: Towards Personalization
The 2024 edition of the Summer School on Affective Neuroscience featured the participation of numerous distinguished speakers, including Dr. Stefano Pallanti, who ― as one of the world's leading experts on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder ― delivered a lecture entitled "TMS for the OCD Spectrum: Towards Personalization."
Dr. Pallanti's lecture took place on Wednesday, July 3rd at 10:15 AM and represented a unique opportunity to delve into the latest discoveries on innovative and targeted therapies for the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Disorders. Among these, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) represents an innovative technique that could revolutionize the treatment of these disorders, thanks to the very high level of treatment personalization it offers.
Dr. Pallanti is a pioneer in Neuromodulation Therapies: he has been using them since 2005 for the treatment of numerous neuropsychiatric disorders, including Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and related disorders. During his lecture for the Summer School on Affective Neuroscience, Dr. Pallanti shared with the partecipants the results of the latest findings on the topic, bringing attention to the importance of personalized treatments for significant therapeutic outcomes!

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
The different types of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) represent non-invasive and non-pharmacological therapies that use magnetic field to stimulate or inhibit specific brain areas, proving to be highly effective for the treatment of many disorders, including Resistant Depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
OCD and Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Disorders
Dr. Pallanti is one of the leading experts on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in the world.
The Istituto di Neuroscienze integrates a variety of treatment methods that have proven successful in treating Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Disorders: Neuromodulation Therapies, Pharmacological Therapies, Psychotherapy and Natural Therapies.
